Meet Anastasia Tanuputri – Artist behind Design by Was.

Artist, modern calligrapher and content creator, Anastasia Tanuputri is the talent behind Design By Was.

Through creating stunning personalised gift tags, prints and stationery, Anastasia’s signature style has made a mark in the creative industry and her work is definitely something to keep an eye out for!

As modern calligraphy is such a beautiful form of artistic expression, here at Sambag we just had to share Anastasia’s talent with you and find out more about the woman behind the work.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do?

I create lettering & modern calligraphy for marketing campaigns, small businesses and personal projects.

What is the inspiration behind your work?

Minimal art, people on the street & fashion.

What memorable responses have you had from your work?

The latest one was from a customer who postponed her camping trip, just so she could get some gift tags personalised by me.

What has been your favourite projects to work on?

The wall art on the sides of the escalator in Westfield Penrith. This is definitely at the top of the list, as I am afraid of height! Creating art whilst conquering my fears was very challenging.

Which pens, paper & tools are your favourite?

Brushes (synthetic & sable, depending on the look I want to achieve) and black indian ink. I also like canson paper for creating original artwork.

How has your style developed over the years?

When I first started, I didn’t have many different variations or styles. Now though, that I have been doing this for awhile, I have found my own style. I work each day on strengthening this unique style.

When did your passion for letter writing, calligraphy begin?

After my second daughter started going to day-care, I found that I had more time to myself. I saw modern calligraphy on Instagram accounts I followed, and I fell in love straightaway.

Come visit Anastasia at Sambag Woollahra, between 10-12pm, Friday the 15th of December personalising Christmas gift tags for that someone special as part of the Edgecliff rd, Christmas party.

A chat with Wendy Small, founder of Napolitains Sydney.

Perfect for the upcoming festive season, Napolitian’s short bread are a delicious, “moreish” treat that’s sure to be a major hit at your next social engagement.

Here at Sambag, we can’t help but indulge in the scrumptiously buttery Napolitians biscuits, so much so that we just had to meet the founder of these delicious treats.

Meet Wendy Small, founder of Napolitains Sydney.

Can you tell us the story behind Napolitains Sydney? How did you get started?

Napolitains is a popular traditional sweet from Mauritius. I was born in Mauritius and have loved Napolitains since I was a child. For over 10 years, I have made Napolitains for my family. For every celebrated occasion I made a batch of Napolitains as my contribution to the family feast! With the help of social media and a modest website, I decided to launch the product into the Sydney market. It was not available commercially at the time, I saw an opportunity and officially launched it on Valentine’s day 2015.

What inspired you to make such yummy treats?

Napolitains have been a popular sweet in Mauritius for centuries. Australians love a biscuit or two with a nice cup of tea, so I thought it was time to share Napolitains with Australia!

How do your Napolitains taste so amazing? Any secret ingredients, you can reveal?

The secret ingredient is love, as any home cook will tell you that our emotions are expressed through cooking. If I’m in a bad mood, I will never bake! I am also very lucky to have the best ingredients from local farmers. The flour, sugar, butter, almond meal and quince jelly are all made here in Australia. A great recipe is only as good as the quality of the ingredients. Fresh is best and I am very grateful to the farmers of Australia.

 Why choose short bread biscuits?

The recipe is mainly butter and flour. So by default, it’s part of the shortbread family of biscuits.

Any tips for us at home-bakers out there?

Bake when you are happy or wanting to please someone else. Don’t worry too much about the presentation. Less is more.  It’s the taste that counts!

How can we get our hands on your yummy Napolitains shortbread biscuits?

You can visit my website or for 1:1 service private message me via Instagram @napolitains_sydney, on Facebook or email

Come celebrate with us! Pop into Sambag Woollahra store, Thursday the 14th to try Wendy’s Napolitians biscuits as part of the Edgecliff Rd Christmas party celebrations.
